What’s this all about?
Entrepreneurial instinct (creativity, vision, and a willingness to take risks) shapes culture in powerful ways. But how do we steward those instincts for something more than just success? How do we build ventures that make a Kingdom difference?
This weekend retreat will dive into three key questions:
What is missional entrepreneurship?
How can entrepreneurial gifts be used to make disciples?
And how should Christians think about the financial upside of startups?
Whether you’re already building something or just beginning to dream, this is a space to explore what it looks like to create for God’s glory.
Who is this for?
This retreat is for students and recent graduates (Class of 2022 or later) who feel called to build - whether that’s businesses, ministries, or something in between. It’s for those with entrepreneurial instincts and a desire to think deeply about how to follow Jesus through what they create.
What to expect
Teaching, workshops, and discussion with Dr Frog Orr-Ewing and Olly Perkins on entrepreneurship as a tool for disciple-making
A Diary of a CEO-style interview with Matt Round
A hands-on hackathon to develop and pitch your own missional startup idea
Meaningful connection with other Christian entrepreneurs
Worship together at Hope City Church, followed by a final group lunch and reflection
The retreat will be hosted at Humbie House, Kirkliston, just 12 minutes from Edinburgh Airport with excellent rail and air links. Accommodation will be simple—think airbeds and bunk beds—with the generous hospitality of Matt Round, who is opening his home for the weekend.
Meet the Speakers
Dr Frog Orr-Ewing
Rev Dr Frog Orr-Ewing is a priest, theologian, and entrepreneur. He holds degrees in theology from Oxford and a doctorate from King’s College London. He is Senior Theological Advisor for Missional Labs and Rector of Latimer Minster, and has founded several ventures including Stampwell Farm, Peregrine Ventures and Good Earth Investments.
Matt Round
Matt led Amazon’s launch into Scotland as Managing Director from 2004–2010, before training for ministry at Wycliffe Hall, Oxford. He now pastors Hope City Church Edinburgh, an FIEC church which he helped plant.
Olly Perkins
Olly is a serial entrepreneur and the founder of Fruitful Work, which is scaling nationally to equip students to live missionally in their careers. He previously founded DroneOptix, employing three full-time staff, and also leads Urban Saints Guildford, a youth ministry running 300+ sessions a year.
